Quentin Tarantino’s ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD visits 1969 Los Angeles, where everything is changing, as TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. The ninth film from the writer-director features a large ensemble cast and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age.

I love how the Manson murders are sort of skimmed off to the side like it's not a major plot point.

@Alex4Lolz. It's not a major plot point. I know this may sound confusing but the murders aren't even a part of this movie.

As Leonardo DiCaprio's character's stunt double, the film seems to portray Brad Pitt as Rick Dalton's Higher Self. This is the exact same function that Brad Pitt's character served to Edward Norton's character in Fight Club. The character's name, Cliff Booth, even seems to point to being the Higher Self, as a cliff is higher or high up and a booth is meant to envelope and ensconce, to protect, as it were (a function of the Higher Self). The inherent duality within the film also seems apparent to this mystical disposition of Higher Self vs Lower Self.

Am I the only one who thinks this will be the first chapter in Tarantino’s Manson Family film, Once upon a time in Hollywood takes place around 1970, Sharon Tate is a character in the movie and also was killed just before 1970, really seems like a coincidence especially from all the rumors of Tarantino making a Manson Family movie.

@AlchemistofPhenomena DX. I think you may be the only one who doesn't realize Charles Manson and the Manson Family are in this movie. Manson is in the trailer. He's the one waving.

This movie better respect Bruce Lee. But I doubt it considering the Bruce Lee character talking big and the Americans being casual and smartassy to him, and there's another tv trailer for this out there where basically they're all "lol martial artists are stupid because we have guns"

The only way it can be a true Tarantino movie is if Bruce Lee says the n-word

    • Eli Kronen
      Eli Kronen 16 күн бұрын

@jazdinotinks. Jimmy in PF uses that word in order to try and anger Jules because he's angry at him. He's not necessarily racist but he uses it in a racist way because he's angry. I would say that implies a level of racism. Also, it shows that Jimmy's wife is black. The studio insisted on that to try and soften the blow. QT didn't want that because he most definitely wrote the character's dialogue to imply a racist usage of that word.

    • Eli Kronen
      Eli Kronen 16 күн бұрын

@jazdinotinks. I saw the characters in RD as racist. Larry (Mr. White) is an old school white criminal who uses the word to describe black criminals as inferior and sloppy. Vic and Eddy use it. Vic just got out of prison. They also use it to talk down about black people.

    • jazdinotinks
      jazdinotinks 16 күн бұрын

The character that qt plays in pulp fiction says dead n storage but it’s not to show that he’s racist. Also the robbers in dogs use the n word but again they’re not seen as racist necessarily

    • Eli Kronen

@Ian Goodman. It's because Lee's daughter doesn't ever give her blessing to any movie that depicts him, so why waste the time? Also, the fact that Bruce Lee kills the Manson family in this movie is pretty badass and a hell of an homage.
