    wow, it is indeed one trash performance, thank you so much for showing how generic, cringy, weak and boring performance to the world especially US.
    can't they just perform in North Korea or something? it's better if they also take their whole fans to be there while waiting the real Kpop Idol, Mr. Kim Jong Un, to nuke them

    • ‘Moonshine&’Sunshine
      ‘Moonshine&’Sunshine 3 сағат бұрын

      @Tracy Victoria I was comparing BTS to other kpop acts, because that is what OP commented about. They asked what the difference between BTS and other kpop acts is, not the difference between BTS and western artists. I know a lot of artists have it hard and need to fight tooth and nail to succeed in the industry, I'm not denying that. BTS had to do the exact same thing in their industry. Big3 privilege is very real. Groups from the major companies get a lot of mediaplay, positive articles, etc. even if they aren't really that good, just because they are from a certain company. BTS didn't have that. They were actively being opposed by these companies and their fans, by being cut from broadcasts, being accussed of plagiarism, hell, fans from other groups even started petitions to take awards away from them. Like I said, they were not supposed to succeed and people are still bitter about that. So yes, their history as coming from a small company has everything to do with what sets them apart in the kpop industry.

      As for their discography. I simply do not agree with it being boring or generic. Their discography is diverse. They know how to do all kinds of genres and make them sound good as well. Again, you are comparing them with western artists while the comment was about BTS vs. the other kpop acts. I agree that if you compare them with western artists the fact they write about social issues is not very revolutionary. Western acts do that all the time. But the thing is, kpop acts don't. A lot of kpop songs are about love, girl crushes, break-ups, etc. BTS' lyrics is not and that's special in the kpop industry. Seo Taiji didn't name them his successors for nothing. They return to the basics of kpop by writing about important topics and again, that's special if you compare them with other kpop acts, what the OP comment was about. This is also special if you look at the current western top 40. Tell me how many songs talk about politics, love for fans, or other social topics and not love, sex or fame? Just because they are being inspired by other artists does not mean they copy them. Songs like 'Fake Love' that has kind of a weird verse layout, or 'DDAENG', 'A Brand New Day' and 'Idol' that combine traditional and modern sounds, not at all generic in my opinion. Not every rapper that raps fast is 'stealing' from Eminem. They are being inspired by him. Just because Eminem raps fast does not mean others can't do that too.
      Just because kpop music sometimes sounds the same, like rock music sounds the same, or rap sounds the same, or pop sounds the same, does not mean it always works. Yes, there have been and are kpop groups that do the same as BTS, but somehow they aren't selling, so BTS must be doing something right.

      I agree that BigHit is extremely good at marketing (though I sometimes wish they would do even better) and we're thankful for that. But the boys themselves also deserve A LOT of credit. They are the ones that actually sell BTS and that makes sure people become and stay fans. And we'll see if BTS is forgettable. Fact is that they have been on a steady rise in popularity in the US since 2016-2017 and are still going up. That's organic growth and not just hype.

      My intention is by no means to make you like BTS, that's totally your call. And if it's not your taste, that's fine. But saying BTS is overrated, had it easy, or isn't musically or lyrically unique (in both the kpop industry and western market) is just ignorant. If you look at the sales and streams right now they will be here for a while and hating on them won't change that.

      @‘Moonshine&’Sunshine ‘Moonshine&’Sunshine Oh boohoo another "BTS hAvE mEaniNgfUL lyRicS" and "cOme fRoM sMall cOmpaNY" so you must respect them.
      Let me tell you something, everyone has their own journey to become a musician. Those famous artists you saw on the billboard or grammy they all started out small and some of them got it rough. You think they didn't work their asses off? huh?. Some of them got it rougher than your precious BTS, if you really look into their history as well. But that's not the point.
      The point lies on their discography. Nothing original or special or revolutionary about them. Yes their music is generic and formulaic, no differnet than any other pop songs out there. Yes, they also copied the flows, technical style, lyricism from some famous US rappers out there. Yes, they also spread positivity and talk about depression, just like any other millions of musician out there.
      Their music production sucks, unbearable and generic, they use the same formula like any other Kpop boyband over and over again. Seriously, if you think BTS music is special you might wanna get your brain checked. There are a lot of Kpop boyband way before BTS exist that have done this same formula like BTS did.
      The only thing that's so special about them is that they're the first Kpop act to successfully promote in US. That's it.
      If anything you all should be grateful to their marketing staff and their CEO because even I have to admit they are really smart doing their business. Pushing these generic and forgettable act to be this successful.
      BTS is popular because they are fit to be the asian representation. They spread positivity, they look good, they literally have anything to be "A GOOD EXAMPLE" for everyone. Thus they became super overrated. For me those good example things are just cliche, naive and makes me wanna vomit.

      @Tracy Victoria Hey Tracy, you seem to have a lot of misconceptions about BTS. Literally everything is different with this group (from a small company, short training time, total creative freedom, social concious songs and overall attitude, etc.). This song may seem like a generic pop song, and to a certain degree I agree with that. When you don't know the lyrics or the context of the song and album it does seem like that. The album 'Map of the Soul: Persona' is dedicated to the fans, called ARMY, and the album series (there's going to be 3 albums) deals with the ideas of Carl Jung about the discovery of the true 'self'. The title track 'Boy With Luv' is a love letter to the ARMY. They sing about how they want to get to know ARMY better ('I'm curious about everything, how's your day?') and want to thank them for supporting BTS ('Listen my my baby, I'm flying high in the sky, with the two wings you gave me back then.'). Other songs on the album, like 'Make It Right', 'Mikrokosmos' and 'HOME' have the same kind of message, while 'Dionysus' talks about their lives as artists. If you listen to the full album, or any other BTS song you'll see this poppy sound is not at all what BTS normally sounds like. Here are just some examples (turn on subtitles for 'Dionysus' and 'Fake Love'!):
      -'Dionysus' -->бейне.html
      -'Outro: Tear' -->бейне.html
      -'Ma City' -->бейне.html
      -'Fake Love' -->бейне.html
      BTS didn't 'steal' what is popular right now... kpop has ALWAYS been influenced by what's popular in the US and Europe market. BTS have been doing hip-hop/rap since 2013 and before, they started out as a hip-hop group and 2 of the members (blonde rapper and the guy in red shirt) were underground rappers before joining BTS. They also have been doing more EDM kind of music since at least 2015. Some of the genres you listed may have originated in the US, but that does not mean the rest of the world is not expanding on it as well.
      The fans make them seem like a big deal, because they are. The group is unique in their sound, lyrics and journey. They came from a small music company and have always been looked down upon because of that. They were not supposed to succeed and their artistery and musically is still being downplayed. OF COURSE fans are proud and want to show the world how amazing BTS is. They certainly are not overrated. The 7 guys have worked their asses off and still do to show us the best of the best, whether it be vocals (they didn't always have access to proper vocal trainers, or were downright refused to be trained), dancing skills (only 2 of the members (pink hair and guy with turtleneck) were trained dancers before joining BTS, guy with total black shirt and white shoes didn't have ANY singing or dancing experience), lyricism (check some of their best lyrics here, and YES they do write and produce their own music! --> ), or anything else. They are true performers that have worked hard to be at the level they are now, and deserve every ounce of succes they have.
      As for your last statement: 'and gay'. Tell me what exactly makes you think they are gay? And what if they are? It's 2019, being gay or any other non-straight sexuality is totally okay. Like Suga said: "You'll like BTS' music if you listen without prejudice."

    • Tracy Victoria

      literally nothing different. It's just a fucking generic pop song but sing it in Korean. They pretty much stole what's trending right now from hip hop, pop, ballad, edm, etc. Their fans are the one who makes them seem like big deal. So overrated and gay

      I don't know, the choreography seems easy, but after trying it, it wasn't that easy. Still, this is one of their "easiest" choreography, if you can call it easy. 🤣

    what the fuck is up with SNLs acoustics.. legit i dont think anyone who performs live on snl sounds good and its not the artist fault at all! its like everything is too quiet. Same shit happened when eminem performed on here. so annoying cuz u know that they perform better than the quality the show gives..

      Seriously kid, go listen to their album Random Access Memories (Daft Punk) and No Geography (ChemBros), those are the real music not this generic ass pop bullshit.
      This is funniest comment ever, I can't believe someone actually degrading two legendary and influential musician to this BTS trash. Ahahahahaha.

      @Tracy Victoria With all due respect, but I don't think anyone who likes Daft Punk and Chemical Brothers should be critiquing a performance. BTS' handshakes have more showmanship than those dj's.

      Song's a collab with Halsey and since she couldn't make it, they have to have female backup singers. Obviously there are other tracks with all the members, just the rappers, just the singers or solo songs. Just depends on the songs.

    n9 this NW song, Boy with Love was designed to introduce the mainstream American market to BTS. This performance on SNL and the music video featuring American pop star, Halsey, has an eye popping visuals and colors like all their videos and a very catch pop hook that keeps you humming the chorus. The rap and dance are choreographed perfectly to show their versatility. This will double their audience into the mainstream music world!
